Transportation Partners Host Community Meetings about Tolled Managed Lanes

Monday, August 25, 2014
6 p.m.

Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Dallas
Building E Auditorium
17360 Coit Road
Dallas, TX 75252

At community workshops Aug. 25-26 in Dallas and Euless, transportation partners will provide an update on recent and upcoming openings of tolled managed TEXpress Lanes and the proposed transition of HOV lanes to Express lanes.

Priced facilities such as toll roads and new TEXpress Lanes help expand transportation options when traditional funding falls short of meeting transportation needs. Investing tolls in the transportation system improves safety, reduces congestion, enhances quality of life, spurs economic development and benefits the region.

North Texas has been and continues to be one of the fastest growing regions in the nation, leading to a greater demand on the transportation system. Traditional transportation funding, however, has remained mostly unchanged for many years as costs and demand increase.

At the community workshops, transportation partners will discuss funding realities, project updates and resources for drivers choosing to use the new TEXpress Lanes. Additionally, the potential near-term transition of HOV lanes to Express lanes, which would allow solo drivers to pay a toll to travel in lanes currently limited to carpools, will be discussed. Partners will review development of these plans and discuss next steps for transportation in the region.

Following each workshop, a video recording of the discussion will be posted under the
Public Meetings tab at NCTCOG.org/video. For more information about the workshops, visit NCTCOG.org/meetings.
